House of hollow sisters6/1/2023 House of Hollow follows Iris Hollow, the youngest of three sisters who all vanished off a street in Scotland as children only to reappear in the same spot one month later. I got all of the horror and eeriness that I could have wanted, and then some. I decided to read House of Hollow for Halloween month, hoping it would be as creepy as the summary sounded. From the beginning, I found it difficult to put the book down and absolutely impossible to walk away from it once the tension began to ratchet up. It is the kind of story you want to read during the day, the kind that will haunt you afterwards. The novel’s strength is in the ways it turns mundane things into something more, walking the line between the familiar and the unfamiliar to create an eerie atmosphere that grows the longer you read it. It is a story about the weight of beauty, and the terrifying ways it can be weaponized. It is a story of magic and monsters and the darkness hiding inside those closest to you. About unbreakable bonds and the terrible things you will do to save each other, things you would not do for yourself. Recommended for: readers who love fantasy horror or more gothic soft-horror stories Genre: YA Horror, YA Fantasy Number of Pages: 304 (Hardcover) Rating: 4/5 stars Warnings: The novel includes elements of sexual harassment, depictions of murder, and general horror.
